How To Fix A Puncture

Many of us love to traveller! A weekend getaway or a solo trip, a travel journey lets us breathe and have a change of schedule. As India has beautiful hills to check out, we see the highways full of vehicles loaded with passengers on the holidays. Many of us travel to Mumbai, and in search of a long journey, tend to take the cars or caravans, India has many joint families, so no surprise! Well, of course the journey is amazing, but a lot of car and tyre maintenance needs to be done on the same time. Considering the tyre be it high performance tires, attention has to be given. No matter about the length of the drive, you have to carry a Stephanie and even a tool kit in case of emergency! But do you know how to fix a flat tyre? Well, let’s find out about the same! There is nothing that we can’t learn.

First, if you have a flat tyre, check if there is an air leakage or if an object is stuck on the tyre. If a nail is stuck then watch out for the depth of the same. If anything is stuck on the inner part of the tube, then don’t fiddle with it and drive it straight to a mechanic. The treads of performance tyres and that of a normal car tire is different, so know the depth. However, if the puncture happens and it isn’t that deep, it’s time to be the mechanic!

Firstly, let’s talk about the things a tool kit of a car should have, in order to make sure of the same. Well there is obviously a spare tyre, then there is the jack. The jack is installed to remove the tyre and change it with the Stephanie. For repairing a flat tyre, there should be:

A plier: A plier, can be a normal one, which the carpenters also use. The plier helps to pull out the nail.

Insertion tool: An insertion tool, also known as the smoothening tool, is useful to expand the area of the puncture. Another insertion tool is used to put in the repair strips.

The repair strips:  These are easily available and come in bunches. Small stuff but helps to seal the puncture. Also, there should be a blade in the tool box, in case you need to cut something protruding of the tyre or the repair strip itself.

Now, let’s understand the working of the same.

Start with the plier, and gently pull out the nail or the object which is stuck. You need to be extremely patient about the same, otherwise the tyre could be damaged. Extreme care is required while pulling out the item. Further, use the smoothening tool and keep pumping it, in and out, to increase the puncture space. Leave it halfway inn and use the other repair insertion tool. Take a repair strip and put it around the tool, and when more than half of it is covered, leave it. Now, with extreme diligence, slowly pull out the smoothening tool and insert the repair tool. The strip gets stuck on the clip part of the tool and hence it automatically moves inside the tyre. When you pull it out, the strip remains inside the tyre and covers the puncture. Remove any extra strip coming out the tyre, using a blade. Now you are good enough to ride, without any tension. It requires certain skills, but is certainly not difficult at all!
